Architect Matthew Jenkins at work.

About

Matthew Jenkins has over 20 years’ experience in architecture, historic preservation, and exterior restoration.

Before establishing his own firm, Jenkins Architecture PLLC, Matt worked for various firms in New York City. In that capacity, he was the Project Manager for restorations that included 54 Bond Street (View Metal Architecture article here), 36 Gramercy Park and Chapel of the Sisters.

Matthew believes the adage that the greenest building is one that already exists. He has spent over 20 years as an Architect focusing on ways to save and keep existing buildings functioning. This reasoning applies to all buildings regardless of age or style. The projects Matthew has been a part of vary from the restoration and preservation of  landmarks dating to the early 1800’s, to the repair of newly constructed buildings.

This philosophy has crossed over into his teaching. Matthew is an Adjunct Professor at CUNY and teaches many courses that focus on how buildings function. Classes have included ‘Detailing and Construction Technologies for Existing Buildings’, ‘Advanced Detailing Studio’, ‘Professional Practice’ and ‘Building Systems’. His goal in teaching college students is to convey and understand how building materials are made, installed, fail and how they are repaired.
